About us
Nathaniel Donkor
I’m Ghanaian–Dutch, like Erik, . At 9 years old, my family moved to Ghana, and I spent the next seven years immersing myself in all aspects of the culture—from food and art, to dance and music. Even the daily traditions and customs became things I quickly paid homage to. Seeing Ghana’s beauty, in a way that can only be described as raw and interactive, was one of the rare blessings that came with living there. And unfortunately, describing it fails to capture certain things that many around the world never see or hear of.
Though I left to continue school in Europe when I was 16, I returned every summer. And in 2019, Erik and I met Enoch, the talented artist who helped make the birth of this brand possible. Amazing artists like Enoch are everywhere, making beautiful creations all the time, but various circumstances mean they don’t reach the wider world in the same way other artists do. Thus, Hybridacia was born. Our goal is to showcase the artistic prowess of underrepresented African artists to the rest of the world. The idea, in short, is for Hybridacia to serve as the bridge between this beautiful art and the world's eyes; we know that both will be happy to see each other.

I met Nathaniel when I was 12, many years ago when my family moved to Takoradi, Ghana, from the Netherlands. As a mixed-race Dutch and Ghanaian child, I always felt like a foreigner in the countries I lived in. But the older I got, the more I’ve begun to notice the differences between our two homes, and between Europe and Africa as a result.
Hybridacia is founded on promoting unity and peace between all races, yes, but also between people. Art is the universal language that helps us carry out this mission, and meeting Enoch, a fellow Ghanaian, was the glue we needed to bring Ghana’s underrepresented art forth to the world. Over time, we hope to bring more artists into our fold, and create a diverse space where we’re bonded by our abilities to appreciate our differences. The name Hybridacia was born from that desire: to dissolve the illusions created by race. We’re a company built on humbling experiences, and for that we see a future of boundless growth.
